The work in the classroom has been specifically designed to match individual learning styles and further each child’s total development. Therefore, many activities are not product-oriented. We ask your understanding and cooperation in not soliciting your child to work on paper for praise or examination. Ways to encourage your child without pressure will be discussed with you if you feel you need help. Montessori teachers strive to help the child achieve through individual efforts and to realize the reward from the process of the work itself.

The word “work” has a happy connotation in the Montessori environment. Therefore, the teachers use the word “work” rather than “play” in the classroom. If your child is attending school for the first time, try not to build up courage by describing the first days. Your child will be working at school with new things and learning how to care for everything and everyone. At the end of each day, a simple question at your meeting might be “Did you enjoy your work today?”
